Husted secures $20 million for Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority

Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today announced that he secured $20 million in federal funding for the Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority’s (GCRTA) Green Line Light Rail Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Platform Rehabilitation project. The funding was awarded through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s All Stations Accessibility Program (ASAP). Several Green Line Light Rail station platforms are antiquated and in poor condition, and they are the last remaining light rail station platforms in the GCRTA system that are not ADA-compliant. The funding will rehabilitate seven stations, bringing them into compliance with the ADA and ensuring all GCRTA stations are accessible to individuals with disabilities. The funding comes after Husted wrote a letter to Federal Transit Administration Director Jamie Pfister urging support for GCRTA’s application. “Greater Cleveland is currently dealing with crumbling platforms and deteriorated sidewalks limiting access for individuals with disabilities. I’m proud to have secured this investment to repair seven stations across the city, increase access to the downtown area from the eastern suburbs and provide reliable transportation for workers and visitors. This will strengthen the city’s economy and drive long-term regional prosperity,” said Husted. “This award represents a major milestone for GCRTA and Greater Cleveland. Once this work is complete, every rail station in our system will be ADA accessible. These improvements will expand access to the Green Line and strengthen connections between the eastern suburbs and downtown for those who live, work and visit Greater Cleveland. ASAP provides funding to states and local government authorities to help finance capital projects to upgrade the accessibility of legacy rail fixed guideway public transportation systems for persons with disabilities, by increasing the number of existing stations or facilities that are fully accessible. The grant allocation builds on Husted’s work as a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Senate Appropriations Committee. In these roles, Husted has been a strong advocate for strengthening Ohio’s infrastructure and ensuring that appropriated funds are obligated to projects that will serve Ohioans. In August 2026, Husted secured funding for the City of Toledo and City of Fairfield infrastructure projects. In July 2026, Husted also announced that he secured $50 million in BUILD funding for Ohio infrastructure projects.
