Sen. Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Lower Health Care Costs for Military Families
Sen. Ossoff Working Across the Aisle to Lower Health Care Costs for Military Families June 15, 2026 Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to lower health care costs for military families. Sen. Ossoff is cosponsoring the Health Care Fairness for Military Families Act to lower health care costs for military families by expanding access to TRICARE, the health insurance program for servicemembers and their families. Currently, TRICARE only covers dependents until the age of 21 (or 23 if they are enrolled as full-time students), as opposed to the Affordable Care Act (ACA), which covers dependents until age 26. When dependents lose TRICARE eligibility, they are left with the choice of either going without coverage or paying additional premiums for alternative TRICARE plans, placing a significant financial burden on military families. The bipartisan bill, led by Sens. Mark Kelly (D-AZ) and Lisa Murkowski (R-AK), would align TRICARE eligibility with the ACA and ensure adult children in military families can keep their TRICARE coverage until they are 26 without additional premiums, closing the gap in coverage. “Our military families make huge sacrifices in defense of our Nation and should not have to worry about facing undue financial hardship when in need of health care,” Sen. Ossoff said. “That is why I am cosponsoring this bipartisan bill to bring down health care costs for servicemembers and their families.” Sen. Ossoff continues to support Georgia’s servicemembers and military families. In November, Sen. Ossoff launched an inquiry with the Acting Director of the Defense Health Agency (DHA) requesting more information about reported plans to reduce services at Eisenhower Army Medical Center, which serves between 30,000 to 40,000 active-duty servicemembers, retired servicemembers, their families, and DoD civilians in and around the CSRA. In March of 2025, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock launched an inquiry with the United States Transportation Command over reported delays and miscommunication impacting and generating uncertainty for Georgia’s servicemembers and their families when moving to new duty station through private contractors. That same month, Sen. Ossoff and a bipartisan group of Members of Congress raised concerns with the Trump Administration following reports that military servicemembers’ allowances for food were being improperly confiscated by the Department of Defense (DoD). In February of 2025, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Love Lives On Act to help spouses of deceased servicemembers retain survivor benefits upon remarriage.
