Rosen Bill to Improve Weather Forecasting to Help Nevada Farmers and Ranchers Advances Out of Senate Committee
Senator Rosen’s Legislation Was Included As Part Of The Bipartisan Weather Act
WASHINGTON, DC –U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen’s bill to improve weather forecasting to help Nevada farmers and ranchers recentlypassed the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation as part of the bipartisanWeather Act. Senator Rosen’sSmarter Weather Forecasting for Water Management, Farming, and Ranching Actcreates new subseasonal and seasonal forecasting pilot projects under the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) to improve advanced forecasts ranging between two weeks to two years, establishing more consistent short-term and long-term weather forecasting. This would help farmers and ranchers be more prepared for potential weather anomalies, such as flash floods or extreme drought.
The bipartisanWeather Act, which Senator Rosen helped introduce and pass,modernizes weather forecasting, supports infrastructure for critical weather data and research, strengthens emergency preparedness for severe weather, and provides farmers and ranchers with better tools and services for agriculture and water management.
“As extreme weather events become more common and less predictable, we must invest in technology and resources to improve forecasting, so that our local communities can better prepare,”said Senator Rosen. “I’m thrilled to see my bill advance through committee and get closer to becoming law. This bill will ensure Nevada’s farmers and ranchers have access to forecasts that will improve their resilience to weather anomalies.”
Senator Rosen has been a leader in the fight to ensure Nevada is prepared for extreme weather. As part of the bipartisan government funding bill for 2026, Senator Rosensecured $4.25 millionto support wildfire suppression in Nevada and across the country, as well as $6.1 million for Regional Climate Centers — one of which is located in Reno. She alsohelped secureover $4 million for wildfire prevention funding for the Lake Tahoe area.
