Michigan GOP Delegation Condemns Canadian Government for Failure to Prevent and Contain Wildfires
MICHIGAN – Today, the Michigan Republican Congressional Delegation released a joint statement condemning the Canadian government’s continued failure to prevent and contain wildfires, creating dangerous air quality conditions across the Great Lakes State. U.S. Representatives Jack Bergman (MI-01), John Moolenaar (MI-02), Bill Huizenga (MI-04), Tim Walberg (MI-05), Tom Barrett (MI-07), Lisa McClain (MI-09), and John James (MI-10) issued the following statement: “Instead of enjoying family vacations at Michigan’s beautiful lakes and campgrounds, for the third summer in a row, Michiganders are forced to breathe hazardous air as a result of Canada’s failure to prevent and control wildfires. This recurring crisis is putting public health at risk — especially for seniors, pregnant women, children, and those with respiratory conditions. We are calling on the Canadian government to take immediate and decisive action to contain these fires and prevent future wildfires. This cannot continue as an annual threat to our communities.”
