Sen. Tim Scott supports resolution to celebrate National Park Week

WASHINGTON — U.S. Senator Tim Scott (R-S.C.) joined Sen. Steve Daines (R-Mont.) in introducing a resolution to designate August 22 through August 30 of 2026 as National Park Week. The Senate passed the resolution by unanimous consent. “America is the greatest country on earth, and our national parks contribute immensely to that greatness. From the natural beauty of Congaree to the historic grounds of Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie, South Carolina is home to some of the most beautiful places in God’s creation,” said Sen. Scott. “As we celebrate National Park Week, I welcome Americans across the country to spend time outdoors and learn more about why we are blessed to call this land our home.” “America’s national parks are true national treasures worth protecting. I’m thrilled to commemorate this week as National Park Week with Senator King. These parks are America’s crown jewels, and we will cherish them for generations to come,” said Sen. Daines. Congress established Yellowstone National Park as the first national park in 1872. Since then, the United States government has worked to protect and support national parks. In 1916, Congress established the National Park Service to protect and manage the landscapes, battlefields, and historical sites across the country, so that future generations may enjoy them and learn from their rich history. Background: South Carolina National Park sites attracted more than 1.6 million visitors in the past year. In addition to welcoming visitors, South Carolina national parks were responsible for generating more than $95 million in economic output in 2024. South Carolina is home to seven National Park Service locations: Charles Pinckney National Historic Site Congaree National Park Cowpens National Battlefield Fort Sumter and Fort Moultrie National Historic Park Kings Mountain National Military Park Ninety Six National Historic Site Reconstruction Era National Historical Park
