McCormick Statement on Oversight Committee Report Exposing Fraud in Minnesota Social Programs

June 9, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON - Congressman Rich McCormick (R-GA) released the following statement after the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform published its report, "The Cost of Doing Nothing: How Tim Walz and Keith Ellison Fueled Minnesota's Fraud Explosion." "The findings in this report reveal a serious failure of oversight and accountability. Our investigation found that Minnesota officials were aware of credible fraud concerns in federally funded social programs for years, yet failed to take action despite having the authority to stop payments and remove fraudulent providers. At a time when Americans are struggling with rising costs and our nation faces record debt, the potential loss of billions of taxpayer dollars to fraud is unacceptable. Every dollar stolen is a dollar diverted from the vulnerable individuals these programs are meant to serve. The report details allegations that state officials ignored warnings, continued funding high-risk entities, and retaliated against employees who raised concerns. The American people deserve transparency, accountability, and responsible stewardship of their tax dollars. I support ongoing efforts to strengthen oversight, combat waste, fraud, and abuse, and ensure taxpayer funds are protected. I also support referring these findings to Vice President Vance and the White House Task Force to Eliminate Fraud for further review. The American people deserve a government that protects their hard-earned money. We must ensure failures like this are never repeated."
