Fischer Statement on Dept. of Transportation Effort to Advance Safety Standards for All Drivers

Calls on Congress to pass her
She DRIVES Act
to make NHTSA’s updated crash testing standards permanent
Today, U.S. Senator Deb Fischer (R-NE), a member of the Senate Commerce Committee, released the following statement after the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)
announced
its new advanced female crash test dummy:
“I’ve been pushing for years to update crash testing standards, which do not account for all of America’s drivers – particularly women. It’s why I’ve been a steady champion of my
She DRIVES Act
to enhance passenger vehicle safety.
“I want to thank Secretary Duffy and the Department of Transportation for taking this step. Now it’s time to pass my legislation to ensure future National Highway Traffic Safety Administrations do not slow or deprioritize these important efforts.
“It's far past time to make these testing standards permanent, which will help save thousands of lives and make America’s roads safer for all drivers. I'm ready to finish the job."
Fischer’s work:
In 2024, Fischer introduced
the
She DRIVES Act
, to modernize vehicle safety tests by requiring the use of the most advanced testing devices available—including a female crash test dummy.
In January,
during Secretary Sean Duffy’s confirmation hearing to be Secretary of Transportation,
Fischer highlighted her
She DRIVES Act
and pressed Secretary Duffy to ensure that NHTSA works in a timely manner to update crash testing standards.
