Allstate will Pay Subcommittee Witness’ Claim in FULL Following Investigation
U.S. Senator Josh Hawley (R-Mo.) today announced that Allstate has agreed to fully compensate a victim whotestifiedat the Senator’s Disaster Management subcommittee hearing thatexposedwidespread fraud within the insurance industry.
Allstate initially offered the victim, Natalia Migal, a paltry sum of $46,000 when a 70-foot oak tree severed her Georgia home last September during Hurricane Helene. Following Senator Hawley’s cross examination of an Allstate executive, Ms. Migal confirmed today that Allstate has agreed to pay her $497,000, plus attorney’s fees, to fully rebuild her home.“This is a victory. Allstate has finally agreed to pay Ms. Migal’s claim in full. But there are many others like her across the country who the insurance industry continues to scam. I will continue to investigate Allstate and other insurance companies to ensure they do right by their policyholders,”said Senator Hawley.
As Chairman of the Disaster Management subcommittee, Senator Hawleylaunchedan investigation into claims practices by insurance companies following natural disasters earlier this year. President Donald Trump exposed the issue during his January visit to North Carolina, where he met with those impacted by Hurricane Helene.
Senator Hawley has also put the presidents and CEOs of State Farm, Nationwide, Liberty Mutual, Travelers, Allstate, and American Family Insurance, among others, onnoticein the wake of devastating storms that recently hit Eastern Missouri. The Senator has called on these companies to honor their insurance contracts as policyholders work to rebuild.
