RIBBON CUTTING: Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance Gets New Building Thanks to Warnock Effort
Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock secured funding in Fiscal Year 2024 for Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance to acquire a new building and expand services The new building will open in November 2026 The federal resources will support Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance in its mission to address domestic violence, child abuse and neglect, and sexual assault Senator Reverend Warnock: “I’m honored to support those doing God’s work to ensure no child is being abused or neglected.” Washington, D.C. – Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance is operating in a new building thanks to Senator Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA) efforts to secure nearly $500,000 to purchase a new space for its mission to address domestic violence. The new building will allow the Alliance to consolidate all its services into one building, providing easier access to services for victims of domestic violence. Services provided include: Forensic interviewing of victims and crisis response, in-house therapeutic intervention, mobile advocacy and outreach, mental health services, safety planning, sexual assault examinations, justice system navigation, and court advocacy. “I’m pleased to support Georgians who are doing critical work to ensure no child is being abused or neglected. Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance has continuously stepped up and been there for children in need,” said Senator Reverend Warnock . “I will continue to work in Washington and across the aisle to ensure Georgians always have the resources they need.” “This building has been a goal of ours for a very long time, and Senator Warnock’s support has made it possible. Having all of our programs together under one roof will make a real difference in how we work together. Just as important, it gives us a space that supports the children and families who come to us for help and the team that shows up every day to serve them,” said CEO and Executive Director for Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance Maggie McGruther. “ We are incredibly grateful to Senator Warnock for investing in our mission and in the communities we serve across Southwest Georgia.” The Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance is an integral point of contact when there is an allegation of domestic violence, child abuse or neglect, and/or sexual assault. By expanding its facilities, it will reduce how often victims must tell their stories and how many places they must go for help, while increasing access to services. Their current building, a 1960s brick house, had space constraints that left no safe or confidential areas for clients to wait for assistance; staff members had to share desks, and privacy concerns were a constant struggle. The Alliance was able to use the $488,000 in funding to cover about 75% of the new building’s total price, which allowed them to purchase the building outright without loans or mortgages. The funding came from three FY2024 government funding bills that passed the Senate with bipartisan support. In 2026, Senator Warnock, along with Senator Jon Ossoff (D-GA) and U.S. Representative Sanford Bishop (D-GA), applauded $739,000 in federal funding for the Southwest Georgia Children’s Alliance to expand their early intervention program for family violence, to improve coordinated care services and strengthen the justice system’s response to child abuse and family violence. ###
