Sen. Ossoff Working Across Aisle to Expand Access to Affordable Housing for Veterans
Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working across the aisle to expand access to affordable housing for Georgia veterans.
Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisanHousing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act (HUDVA), first introduced by Sens. Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Dave McCormick (R-PA), to ensure that veterans can more fairly access affordable housing options.
Historically, disability benefits had been considered part of annual income when determining housing assistance eligibility, unfairly disadvantaging Georgia veterans with a service-connected disability.
The bipartisan bill would instead exclude disability benefits from counting toward annual income, expanding eligibility for several of the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s housing assistance programs, including the HUD-Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (HUD-VASH) program.
“Our national honor requires that we lift up and support all who have sacrificed in America’s defense. That’s why I am working to end veteran homelessness in Georgia and nationwide,”said Sen. Ossoff.
Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgia’s servicemembers, veterans, and military families.
In December, Sen. Ossoffcosponsoredthe bipartisanHelping Heroes Actto expand supportive services for families of disabled veterans, including children taking on caregiving roles for their parents.
In 2025, Sen. Ossoffworked across the aisleto pass the bipartisanVA Home Loan Awareness Actthrough the Senate, legislation he cosponsored to help Georgia veterans afford homes.
Also in 2025, Sens. Ossoff and John Kennedy (R-LA)introducedtheService-Disabled Veteran Opportunities in Small Business Actto help disabled veterans’ small businesses thrive.
