Schatz Statement On EPA Proposal To Repeal Endangerment Finding

WASHINGTON – U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) today released the following statement after Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Administrator Lee Zeldin announced a proposal to repeal the landmark 2009 Endangerment Finding, which established that greenhouse gases pose a threat to the public and provides the authority to regulate emissions from sources like power plants and vehicles. Administrator Zeldin is also rolling back limits on pollution from vehicles.
“If President Trump and Administrator Zeldin want to have a conversation about reasonable ways to power our country and reduce pollution, we can do that. But deciding that they simply won’t do their job — as extreme heat and disasters threaten communities and raise costs around the country — is the latest sign that they care more about protecting polluters than people.”
