McConnell Comments on Ceasefire, Hostage Release
Washington, D.C.
–
U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) issued the following statement today regarding the reported ceasefire and agreement to release American and Israeli hostages from Hamas captivity:
“After 470 days at the hands of brutal terrorist captors, thirty-three innocent men, women, and children will soon return home. I am relieved that these Americans and Israelis will be spared further suffering, I share the joy of their families, and my prayers remain with those who grieve loved ones killed by terrorists and those who still wait in captivity.
“The reported ceasefire agreement is not the end of Iran’s proxy wars against Israel, America, and our partners, and no one understands this better than the Jewish state. Israel’s dismantlement of Hamas, Hizballah, and other Iran-backed terrorists – often over the Biden Administration’s objections – was what produced the leverage to secure this measure of justice for innocent hostages. I hope and expect the incoming Administration will provide Israel the time, space, and support to keep the world’s most active state sponsor of terror and its proxies on their heels.”
