Senator Andy Kim Statement on Tentative Agreement to Release Hostages and Bring Peace to Israeli and Palestinian Peoples
WASHINGTON D.C.– Today,Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ)released the following statement on a tentative agreement to release hostages and bring peace to Israeli and Palestinian peoples:
“If we are one step closer to hostages being released, ending the suffering of the Palestinian people in Gaza, and ending this conflict, we must do everything possible to finalize this agreement.
“If fully realized, this plan would provide a path to restoring peace to Gaza and giving the Palestinian people hope for a future not defined and shaped by conflict. Hamas must follow through by engaging in serious negotiations to finalize details and then follow through on their commitments. I hope that Prime Minister Netanyahu also sees this as an opportunity to provide real security for the Israeli people, not built on extended conflict, but built on providing the Israeli and Palestinian peoples pathways to true coexistence.
“As we approach the two-year anniversary of the horrific terror attacks of October 7th, and at the beginning of the Jewish Year of 5786, we should rededicate ourselves to not just ending this immediate conflict, but ensuring it never happens again. That will take more work than this one agreement; it will take a generation of Israelis, Palestinians, and global partners like the United States building trust, creating opportunity, and fostering and protecting peace.”
