Husted secures $20 million for City of Toledo infrastructure project

“Strong infrastructure is essential to keeping Ohioans safe and growing the economy.” WASHINGTON – Sen. Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today announced that he secured $20 million in federal funding for the City of Toledo’s rescoped Connecting Toledo Neighborhoods to Opportunity project through the U.S. Department of Transportation’s (USDOT) Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grant program. Husted advocated for approval of the $20 million grant after working closely with USDOT and the City of Toledo to advance the project and address revisions needed for the grant’s approval. “Strong infrastructure is essential to keeping Ohioans safe and growing the economy. This grant will help ensure Toledo has reliable access to water, modern sanitary systems, safe roads and improved pedestrian access. Ohioans can count on me to continue advocating for investments that support economic growth and improve the quality of life for families across our state,” said Husted. “This is a great day for Toledo. This project will transform how our residents move through their neighborhoods and connect them to the jobs and opportunity being created right here at home. I want to thank Sen. Jon Husted and all our elected federal representatives for standing with Toledo and fighting for this project every step of the way,” said Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz. The City of Toledo’s FY23 Connecting Toledo Neighborhoods to Opportunity BUILD grant will allow for important infrastructure updates including new water and sanitary lines, reconstruction of roadways and enhanced pedestrian safety features. The grant allocation builds on Husted’s work as a member of the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works and the Senate Appropriations Committee. In these roles, Husted has been a strong advocate for strengthening Ohio’s infrastructure and ensuring that appropriated funds are obligated to projects that will serve Ohioans. In July 2026, Husted announced he secured $50 million in BUILD funding for Ohio infrastructure projects. The USDOT’s BUILD program provides grants for surface transportation infrastructure projects with significant local or regional impacts.
