WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-S.D.) today joined Martha MacCallum on Fox News, The Brian Kilmeade Show on Fox Radio, and The Hugh Hewitt Radio Show. On Democrats embracing socialism: “The Democrats in this country, in many cases, have gone so far left … They’ve embraced the socialist wing of their party, and that’s going to put them completely out of the mainstream with the American people.” On the SAVE America Act: “I’m a cosponsor of the SAVE America Act. I was a cosponsor of that in the last session of Congress before it became popular … We’ve had it voted on now six different times, Martha. Every single time, every single Democrat has voted against it. “We don’t have the votes in the Senate to get rid of the legislative filibuster, which is the only way we can pass it at 51. Otherwise, it takes 60, meaning we have to have Democrats, and that’s why we need to elect more Republicans to office, because the Democrats now, on six different occasions, have bloc-voted against photo ID, citizenship to vote … banning mail-in ballots, making sure that we don’t have boys competing in girls’ sports, and trans surgeries for minors. “That is the SAVE America Act in its totality. We voted on that. We voted on the individual pieces of it, now six times, and every single time the Democrats oppose it. So if you want to get it done, then make this an issue in the campaign. Go out and draw contrast with your Democrat opponent and elect more Republicans, and we can get the SAVE Act passed.” On Iran: “I think all tools need to be on the table in terms of holding Iran and its proxies and its international supporters accountable for their actions. “I applaud the administration for finding unconventional ways to achieve what is the underlying goal … I think the military objectives have been very clear there. I think we’ve achieved those. Now the question is, we’ve got to ensure that … the shipping lanes remain open, and that Iran isn’t able to start stopping, blocking, and tolling people in an international waterway. And I think right now that’s the administration’s focus.”
