Ramirez Statement on NO Vote on Continuing Resolution

September 1, 2026 Press Release Washington, DC – Today, Congresswoman Delia C. Ramirez (IL-03) released the following statement: “Today, we received notice of another death in ICE detention. We also learned that a 20-year-old Haitian immigrant, Pierre Damas Bel, took his own life in Springfield, Ohio, after the Trump Administration ended TPS for Haitians and fitted him with an ankle monitor. Our communities are still being surveilled, our children still terrorized, and our neighbors are still dying at the hands of DHS. DHS is the biggest threat to our collective safety, and we must stand strong against any attempt to expand or extend its funding. H.R. 6500 includes funding for DHS operations, including units responsible for terrorizing our communities during Midway Blitz. At the same time, the Trump Administration continues to abuse its power, whether by cutting off our healthcare, underfunding infrastructure, waging endless wars, or terrorizing our communities. While I am grateful for the work my Democratic colleagues did to ensure a temporary block on any proposed rule by the Office of Management and Budget that would politicize the federal grantmaking process, I will not authorize another dollar to enable their attacks. That is why I voted NO .” Issues : Peace Building and Security Immigration Democracy Congress
