CATCH UP WITH SENATOR KIM: Building an Anti-Corruption Movement in New Jersey and Nationwide

The Senator says enough with the Trump administration’s “corruption tax” on working families
WASHINGTON, D.C.– After standing up to his own party’s attempts to weaken the state’s anti-corruption tools at a New Jersey State Senate hearing Monday, Senator Kim continued his calls for nationwide reforms to root out corruption and conflicts of interest as the Trump administration continues to use mob boss tactics to exploit the American people for their own gain.
Yesterday on CNN’sThe Lead with Jake Tapper, Senator Kim called out this “corruption tax” on Americans: “It’s not just about corruption. It’s that this affects how much you pay at the grocery store. It affects how much you pay, in your health care and your housing costs. It’s a corruption tax…As these politicians are taking in money for themselves and their special interests and their buddies and corporations, we have to pay the cost.”

On Monday, Senator Kim stood alongside New Jersey Attorney General Matt Platkin, State Comptroller Kevin Walsh, and numerous anti-corruption advocates in Trenton andtestified againstState Senate bill, S.4924, which would severely weaken the oversight power of the New Jersey Comptroller’s office and create an environment for conflicts of interests and further erode public trust in government.

As reported by The American Prospect this week, “How could Democrats credibly fight corruption in Washington if they are simultaneously inviting corruption in Trenton, Kim insisted.”
In the interview, Senator Kim went on to cite how Republicans slashed nearly $1 trillion from Medicaid to offset a tax cut for the ultra-wealthy as one of any examples of Trump’s corruption tax.“The push going forward has to be connecting the challenges people are facing to the corruption we’re seeing with this administration.That’s what we can build a movement around,” said Senator Kim.
