Sens. Ossoff, Rev. Warnock Launch Inquiry into Reports of Poor Services for Military Families During Moves

Washington, D.C.— U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff is working to help military families relocating between installations.
Today, Sens. Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock launched an inquiry with the United States Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM) over reported delays and miscommunication impacting and generating uncertainty for Georgia’s servicemembers and their families when moving to new duty station through private contractors.
“These issues have affected Georgians transferring to new duty stations, adding frustration and, at times, financial uncertainty to an already disruptive relocation process,”Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock wrote to General Randall Reed, Commander of USTRANSCOM.“I urge you to fully exercise your oversight authority to ensure the GHC program delivers on its promise to improve service, communication, and accountability for military families.”
According toMilitary Times, roughly 1,000 military moves were reportedly affected by missed pickup or delivery dates or communications issues under the Global Household Goods Contract (GHC) program, amounting to roughly 20% of moves since the program began.
“Our military service members and their families are asked to relocate many times over the course of their careers to meet the nation’s defense needs,”Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock continued.“They deserve the peace of mind of knowing their belongings will arrive at their new duty stations on time and in good condition.”
According to areportlast month from WRDW Augusta, military families in Georgia have run into delays with moves.
Sen. Ossoff continues working to support Georgia’s servicemembers and military families.
Last week, Sens. Ossoff and Warnockraised concernswith the Department of Defense regarding conditions at military dining facilities and access to healthy food options on installations.
Last month, Sen. Ossoffco-sponsoredthe bipartisanLove Lives On Act, introduced by Sens. Jerry Moran (R-KS) and Reverend Raphael Warnock (D-GA), to help spouses of deceased servicemembers retain survivor benefits upon remarriage.
Earlier this year, Following Sen. Ossoff’s push, a historic 14.5% pay increase for junior-enlisted personnel across Georgia wassigned into lawas part of this year’sNational Defense Authorization Act(NDAA).
