Husted in northeast Ohio with educators, affordable housing advocates

Jon Husted (R-Ohio) today visited Stark State College to see its Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) facility and hosted a roundtable with the Ohio Chamber of Commerce on making housing more affordable for Ohio families. “One of my top priorities in the U.S. Senate is making life more affordable for working families. In northeast Ohio, students are gaining the skills they need to fill in-demand jobs, while housing leaders are working to expand opportunities for Ohioans to afford a home. It was inspiring to see that work happening today, and I always leave these conversations encouraged by the people who are working to make a difference in their communities,” said Husted. Husted secured $875,000 for Stark State College’s CDL Instruction Center to support the construction of classrooms, offices, a computer lab and workspace for students. The facility will employ 20 Ohioans and train 220 CDL drivers each year. During the housing roundtable, Husted met with housing leaders from across the state to discuss ways to increase the supply of housing and create more affordable opportunities for Ohioans. In the Senate, Husted is working on several efforts to make housing more affordable: First-Time Homebuyers Act: Husted’s bipartisan bill would give Americans additional flexibility to use existing 529 education savings for a first-time home purchase. Permitting reform: Husted is working to advance permitting reform, which is critical to increasing the housing supply and reducing construction costs. 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act: Husted helped pass this bipartisan bill, which was signed into law and addresses the root causes of rising housing costs by cutting red tape, increasing housing supply, lowering costs for families, protecting taxpayers and preserving local control.
