Senate Passes Schatz-Hirono Resolution Honoring UH Men’s Volleyball Team For NCAA National Championship Win
WASHINGTON – The U.S. Senate today unanimously passed a resolution authored by U.S. Senators Brian Schatz (D-Hawai‘i) and Mazie K. Hirono (D-Hawai‘i) congratulating the University of Hawai‘i (UH) men’s volleyball team on their NCAA National Championship win. Schatz and Hirono also paid tribute to the team’s victory in speeches on the Senate floor. “Congratulations to the ‘Bows on their well-deserved victory,” said Senator Schatz. “This win wasn’t just for the incredible athletes on the court. This win was for the coaches, staff, family, friends, and fans who supported them all along the way. And it was a win for our entire state. This victory belongs to Hawai‘i.” “As a proud UH alumna, I join people across our state and beyond in congratulating our Men’s Volleyball players, coaches, and fans. Part of what makes this team so special, and successful, is that they don't just tolerate difference — they build around it,” said Senator Hirono. “Hawaii has always understood that diversity is something to celebrate, not fear. At a time when diversity is under attack, this team just showed the entire country that diversity is a competitive advantage.” A companion resolution has been introduced in the House by U.S. Representatives Ed Case (D-Hawai‘i) and Jill Tokuda (D-Hawai‘i).
