Shaheen Underscores Commitment to Rural Economies at Century-Old Small Business in Intervale, Discusses Conversation Efforts at Loon Preservation in Moultonborough

(Moultonborough, NH) – U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen (D-NH), a senior member and former Chair of the U.S. Senate Small Business Committee , today visited Limmer Boots, a century-old custom bootmaker in the Mount Washington Valley, to highlight her longstanding commitment to helping New Hampshire’s rural entrepreneurs build and grow their small businesses. After, at the Loon Preservation Committee in Moultonborough, Shaheen discussed efforts to restore and maintain a healthy population of loons in New Hampshire. At Limmer Boots, Shaheen spoke with employees about the challenges and opportunities facing small rural manufacturers and received a tour of the shop floor to see the process firsthand. "Since 1919, Limmer Boots has crafted durable boots enjoyed by hikers in New Hampshire and across the country. It was an honor to see the shop floor in action and discuss how we’re working to support rural entrepreneurs at the federal level,” said Senator Shaheen. Limmer Boots has been the beneficiary of support from the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and was the SBA’s 2026 New Hampshire Small Business Manufacturer of the Year and New England Rural Business of the Year. In Moultonborough, Shaheen toured the grounds of the Loon Preservation Committee (LPC) before embarking on a boat tour on Lake Winnipesaukee for loon viewing. During her visit, Shaheen discussed LPC’s efforts to restore and maintain a healthy population of loons throughout New Hampshire. "Loons are staples of New Hampshire’s iconic wildlife, but they are uniquely vulnerable to human activities,” said Senator Shaheen. “I was pleased to see firsthand the extraordinary work the Loon Preservation Committee is doing to protect loons and their habitats to ensure the beautiful outdoor spaces that make the Granite State so great are enjoyed by generations to come.” The LPC was created in 1975 in response to concerns about a dramatically declining loon population and the effects of human activities on loons. For over 40 years, the Loon Preservation Committee has undertaken state-wide monitoring, research, management and outreach to preserve loons and their habitats. ###
