Senator Andy Kim’s Statement After New Jersey Senate Pulls Contentious Anti-Transparency Bill from Consideration During Lame Duck

JERSEY CITY, NJ –Today, Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) released the following statement after the New Jersey State Senate announced it was pulling State Senate bill S.4924 from consideration, therefore preventing any potential floor vote from taking place during the Legislature’s lame duck session. If passed, this bill would have severely weakened the oversight power of the New Jersey Comptroller’s office, creating an environment for conflicts of interests and other measures that further damages the public’s trust in New Jersey government:
“This is a win for the people of New Jersey and a signal of the power of a growing anti-corruption movement throughout our state and this country. As I’ve said before, the opposite of democracy is apathy. Do not feel helpless about fixing our broken politics. It isn’t just possible, it’s necessary. Now let’s get ready for the next fights.”
