Rep. John McGuire’s Statement on the Continuing Resolution
March 11, 2025 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative John McGuire (VA-05), released the following statement about his vote in favor of H.R. 1968, the Full-Year Continuing Appropriations and Extensions Act, 2025: “I voted for this legislation to support President Trump’s vision for our country; avert a government shutdown; fund core government services; and safeguard Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid recipients from the confusion that a government shutdown could bring at the beginning of this Administration. As a member of the DOGE Caucus, I am supportive of taking a tactical approach when stopping the taxpayer-funded gravy train and rooting out waste, fraud, and abuse. This legislation responsibly reduces discretionary spending and allocates funds for our mission-critical government operations and services.” H.R. 1968 does the following: Maintains government operations without increasing the spending of taxpayer dollars. Helps the Trump Administration with border enforcement, specifically detention and removal operations. Decreases spending by $7B. Enhances defense investments and works towards the most significant pay raise for junior enlisted servicemembers in over 40 years. Upholds responsibilities to our nation’s veterans and ensures full funding for their healthcare services and benefits. Fully funds the program that provides important nutrition assistance to mothers, infants, and children. It includes a more than $500M increase for WIC, as requested by the Trump Administration, for a total of $7.6B. This legislation is not associated with an omnibus, which is the first time in years that Congress will not have an omnibus bill. ### Issues : Congress
