Democrats Block Republican Effort to PAY Troops, Federal Workers During Government Shutdown

WASHINGTON –U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA), today released a statement after Democrats voted to block the passage of hisShutdown Fairness Actto pay federal employees who work through a shutdown like active-duty military and air traffic controllers.
“Really?! Chuck Schumer won’t pay the troops! This is wrong!”said Dr. Cassidy.“If you can’t bring yourself to cross party lines to ensure our troops get a paycheck, you should reconsider why you ran for Congress.”
Cassidy was joined by U.S. Senators Ron Johnson (R-WI), Ted Budd (R-NC), Mike Crapo (R-ID), Tom Cotton (R-AR), James Risch (R-ID), Dan Sullivan (R-AK), and Todd Young (R-IN ) in introducing the bill.
