Bost Helps Secure $34.9 Million From USDA to Invest in Southern Illinois Agriculture
WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Representative Mike Bost (IL-12) today announced that he has helped secure $34.9 million in federal funding for SUL4R-PLUS Illinois, a sulfur fertilizer manufacturing facility in Marissa to support a nearly $70 million expansion. “I’m thrilled to see this major investment coming to Marissa,” said Bost. “Agriculture is the backbone of Southern Illinois’ economy, and investments like this are a win for job growth, manufacturing, and the hardworking farmers who feed and fuel our nation. Expanding fertilizer production here at home will help reduce our dependence on foreign suppliers and give our farmers greater access to the resources they need to grow and succeed. I look forward to seeing the positive impact this project will have for years to come." The funding, announced by Vice President J.D. Vance and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins, is part of the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Fertilizer Investment & Expansion for Long-Term Domestic Supply (FIELDS) Program. The investment will help expand domestic fertilizer production, strengthen America’s agricultural supply chain, and reduce reliance on foreign suppliers. Bost previously authored a letter to the Trump administration urging support for the Marissa project. It is one of eight fertilizer manufacturing projects selected nationwide through the FIELDS Program, representing more than $1.34 billion in proposed investment, including approximately $573 million in proposed USDA funding. ###
