Rep. Steube Supports Federal Funding for Cape Coral Bridge Replacement and Expansion
October 23, 2026 | Press Releases Rep. Steube Supports Federal Funding for Cape Coral Bridge Replacement and Expansion WASHINGTON, D.C. –-U.S. Representative Greg Steube (R-Fla.) sent a letter to the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) in support of Lee County’s Bridge Investment Program application to replace and expand the Cape Coral Bridge, which carries approximately 50,000 trips daily across the Caloosahatchee River. “Southwest Florida is growing, and our infrastructure needs to keep up,” said Rep. Steube. “Families shouldn’t have to sit in endless traffic or worry about whether our roads can handle the next major hurricane. Lee County has put forward a strong proposal, and it’s time for the federal government to step up and support this investment.” The project would replace two existing bridges and expand the corridor from four to six lanes. Lee County estimates the improvements would generate nearly $590 million in transportation, safety, and economic benefits over 20 years while strengthening access to major regional highways and Southwest Florida International Airport.
