Our independent watchdogs are failing the American people. ICE has attacked citizens, cops and kids in Chicago. They are killing people in Minneapolis. Then turn around and lie to our faces. If this pattern of abuse doesn't warrant a joint investigative task force, what does??

DHS’ current immigration enforcement operations are not protecting our homeland security or making American communities safer. They are causing chaos and fear. They are violating Americans’ constitutional rights. We need stronger guardrails and accountability.
- GP
I will be voting no on the DHS funding bill because it lacks necessary reforms to immigration enforcement.
- PM
But we all saw another American shot and killed in broad daylight. There must be accountability, and so we must keep pushing Republicans to work with us to rein in DHS.
- PM
Americans must be eyes wide open that blocking the DHS funding bill will not shut down ICE. ICE is now sitting on a massive slush fund it can tap, whether or not we pass a funding bill.

A government shutdown can be readily avoided by splitting the DHS appropriations from other funding measures, as was done in the House. Democrats have a consensus. Republicans should listen to America. 4
- RB
The secret ICE policy purposefully trashing constitutional rights—in the memo brought to me by whistleblowers—shows the official playbook. ICE’s killing citizens, kicking down doors, encouraging confrontation can be stopped—if Republicans join us in standing up. 3/
- RB
We must mandate an immediate, independent investigation of ICE lawbreaking—transparently done, jointly by federal & state oversight agencies. 2/
- RB
I’m a NO on DHS funding without strict restraints & comprehensive reforms to stop lawless, lethal violence led from the top. Americans are rightly terrified & outraged by the illegal brutality—police state tactics—we’re watching in real time. It must be stopped. 1/

Five times as many Vermonters have dropped their ACA health care plans this year compared to last year. Millions of families around the country are going to be filled with anxiety that an accident or an unexpected illness could bankrupt them. And it's because of President Trump.
- RW
They just took food away from hungry families to pay for a militarized police force that is killing people and ripping families apart. It’s a moral tragedy.
- SW
Bellingcat does good work. They're the ones who proved Russians shot down Malaysia airliner and who tracked and identified Russian attempted killers of Alexei Navalny. bsky.app/profile/did:...

Alex Pretti was an ICU nurse at the VA. His parents said he was “a kindhearted soul.” He was shot and killed by federal agents while trying to help a woman next to him who had been shoved to the ground. Our eyes don’t lie—Americans see what happened.

Here’s another Bellingcat series on an agent using “less lethal” munitions.

“Please get the truth out about our son.” Read and share the statement from the parents of Alex Pretti, the VA ICU nurse who was shot and killed by border patrol.

If we alienate our allies and partners in Europe and Canada, the only people who are celebrating that are Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping. They want to separate the transatlantic alliance and undermine NATO, and the President is playing right into those interests.

“Please get the truth out about our son.” Alex Pretti, a VA ICU nurse, was killed by ICE while trying to protect a woman being assaulted. Trump calls him a “monster” and “domestic terrorist.” Trust your own eyes. Unlike Trump, the video doesn’t lie.

Please take a minute to read this heartbreaking statement from Nurse Pretti’s family. After their son was killed in broad daylight, they are now forced to defend him against this administration’s lies. It’s another reason why Senate Democrats are united in rejecting this DHS spending bill.

People are outraged by yesterday's shooting and what they are seeing from out-of-control federal officers on the ground in Minnesota. It is horrific. An independent investigation must happen.

50,000 Minnesotans turned out to peacefully protest ICE’s actions in 10 below weather and there were no problems. The next day a whole team of federal agents couldn’t handle one citizen with a cell phone. They shot him. ICE needs to leave.

Second, the fact that Alex’s family, while mourning, had to write an entire paragraph rebutting lies spewed is sad and speaks to the moral void of Trump’s team. 2/2
- AK
This family statement is absolutely devastating to read. First, it should never have had to be written. The ease with which Trump’s admin takes someone’s life, and in this case a citizen, is disgusting and wrong. 1/2

The Pretti family’s heartbreaking request to all of us: get the truth out about our son. Alex was an ICU nurse at the Minneapolis VA whose last act was to protect the woman next to him. We will not let this Administration spread lies.

Don’t let this White House lie to you. Believe what you see. Alex Pretti was trying to help a woman off the ground. Then immigration agents tackled, shot, and killed him. It’s time for them to get the hell out of MN.

Federal agents cannot murder people in broad daylight and face zero consequences. I will NOT support the DHS bill as it stands. The DHS bill needs to be split off from the larger funding package before the Senate—Republicans must work with us to do that. I’ll keep fighting to rein in DHS and ICE.
- CH
The killings of Renee Good & Alex Pretti show Trump's DHS culture is rotten to its core. Trump, Vance, Noem, & Miller have made these agents feel immune from the consequences of their actions. That must change. Everyone involved in these operations must be held accountable.

We can all see with our own eyes what ICE is doing to our neighbors. It’s time for the Senate to step up and do the right thing. Stop this violence.

We oppose the ICE funding bill. We call for a full and transparent investigation with state officials. And we call on our Republican colleagues to stand up. They know this is wrong.

I will vote NO on the funding bill for Trump’s ICE. They are killing Americans. Detaining children. Trampling our freedoms. We are losing our humanity. This is a defining moment for our nation. A moment for moral courage. We must stand together and say no.
- MK
A second American citizen has been killed by immigration agents in Minneapolis, and DHS is blocking any independent investigation. When will my Republican colleagues speak out against this chaos? This can’t continue.

Senate Democrats will not provide the votes to proceed to the appropriations bill if the DHS funding bill is included.
- CS
Democrats sought common sense reforms in the Department of Homeland Security spending bill, but because of Republicans’ refusal to stand up to President Trump, the DHS bill is woefully inadequate to rein in the abuses of ICE. I will vote no.
- CS
What’s happening in Minnesota is appalling—and unacceptable in any American city.
- AK
Our message is clear: ICE needs to get out of Minnesota.

President Trump, Kristi Noem, and Stephen Miller are making our communities and all Americans less safe. Enough is enough.
- BL
Kristi Noem and Donald Trump’s ICE is out of control and terrorizing our communities. With multiple deadly shootings of American citizens by federal agents in Minnesota & no accountability, I will not support an appropriations bill that funds DHS without real oversight, transparency, & consequences.
- JR
I’ve seen the horrific video of another fatal ICE shooting. It’s clear that ICE agents are doing more harm than good in Minneapolis. Time for reforms. They aren’t effectively doing their jobs or keeping Americans safe – they are endangering people.
- ES
I will be voting against the Dept. of Homeland Security funding bill this week. Full statement in the thread below.

Public executions at the hands of the government should never happen in “the land of the free.” Not one more taxpayer dollar for Trump’s DHS, CBP or ICE.
- TS
He wasn't a domestic terrorist. A domestic terrorist was the Oklahoma City bomber. This was a VA nurse looking out for his neighbors.
- JH
ICE is out of control. Killing people, separating families, and terrorizing our communities. I’m a NO on the DHS funding bill.
- ES
As all Americans can see with their own eyes, ICE and those under their command are not acting as responsible law enforcement agencies. They are recklessly inciting violence at the whims of the President. And they must be reined in before there is more killing.
- ES
This is part of a continued, coordinated assault on our Constitutional rights — with specific focus on individuals and groups who disagree with this President. I will be voting against the Dept. of Homeland Security funding bill this week.
- ES
This is what President Trump meant when he said he wanted to go after “the enemy within.” At every opportunity, he’s escalated violence against the people of Minnesota. Now, two American citizens have been killed by their own government as part of this operation. www.pbs.org/newshour/nat...

I certainly won't be.
- TS
For those asking where we go from here: Not voting to fund ICE is a great place for us to start.
- TB
ICE and DHS are out of control and making our communities less safe. I will not support funding for DHS without clear accountability and stronger controls over the agency. It is time for the Senate to do its job and rein in this lawlessness.
