Statement FROM Congressman JOE Morelle on Republican’s Misguided Funding Effort
Image June 9, 2026 Press Release Morelle votes against funding for ICE, DHS, and other out-of-control federal agencies (Washington, D.C.)—Today, Congressman Joe Morelle issued the following statement after his “NO” vote on Republican-led legislation that fully funds Immigrations and Customs Enforcement (ICE) while failing to address the issues families face every day: “Donald Trump and Congressional Republicans promised to lower costs for working families. Instead, they’ve passed a bill that cuts healthcare, threatens food assistance, and makes life harder for families—all to bankroll ICE’s mass deportation agenda and hand out more tax breaks to the wealthy. “Here in Rochester, we've seen the fear and uncertainty ICE's actions have created for immigrant families who are our neighbors, coworkers, and friends. Instead of investing in affordable healthcare, lower costs, and stronger communities, Republicans are pouring tens of billions of taxpayer dollars into an agency that has repeatedly targeted law-abiding families and torn communities apart. “This bill is a betrayal of the promises Republicans made to the American people. Taxpayer dollars should be used to help families afford groceries, housing, childcare, and healthcare—not to fund cruelty, sow fear, and make life more expensive for working people. “I voted no, and I will continue fighting for policies that lower costs, protect families, and uphold the dignity of every person in our community.” ###
