VIDEO: As Open Enrollment Begins, Rosen Issues Statement on Spike in Health Care Costs And Calls on Washington Republicans to Extend Tax Credits

WASHINGTON, D.C. –Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) released the following statement as open enrollment begins for families purchasing health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, who will see a spike in costs due to Washington Republicans’ refusal to extend the enhanced premium tax credits. Senator Rosen has repeatedly voted in favor of legislation to address the looming spike in health care costs, which Republicans voted down every time. Arecent analysisby the non-partisan Kaiser Family Foundation showed that health care premiums for hardworking families would more than double if the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) enhanced premium tax credits are not extended this year. In Nevada, nearly95,000people directly benefit from these tax credits.
“I was proud to help pass the law that created and extended the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits, which have helped families be able to afford health care,”said Senator Rosen.“As open enrollment begins this weekend, hardworking Nevadans will see a spike in costs when they enroll in a health plan for next year because Washington Republicans refuse to work across party lines to extend these tax credits. Families will be forced to make tough decisions, and some won’t be able to afford health care altogether. I call on my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to come work with us to help families be able to see a doctor without it breaking the bank.”
Senator Rosen has repeatedly pushed to reopen the governmentandextend the ACA enhanced premium tax credits. She recently hosted a virtualroundtablewith Nevadans who rely on the Affordable Care Act’s enhanced premium tax credits to afford their health coverage. Earlier this year, Senator Rosen helped introduce theHealth Care Affordability Actto make the ACA’s enhanced premium tax credits permanent — ensuring that Nevada families can continue to afford coverage. She alsotraveled up and down the state, meeting withhospital staffto discuss Washington Republicans’ extreme cuts to Medicaid and her legislation toreverse these cuts.
