ICYMI: Baldwin Covers Medicaid Cuts, Milwaukee Flood Recovery, and Threats to the Department of Education on Another Week of “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” Tour

Baldwin hits Dane, Grant, La Crosse, Milwaukee, Racine, and Kenosha Counties in statewide tour
WISCONSIN– Today, U.S. Senator Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) wrapped up the third week of her “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” tour with stops highlighting how Republicans’ cuts to Medicaid will impact rural health, ongoing recovery efforts in Southeastern Wisconsin, the fallout from Donald Trump’s trade war, and threats to public education as Wisconsin children head back to school.
Senator Baldwin kicked off the week by visiting with Madison Metropolitan School District teachers and staff at La Follette High School as they prepare to head back to school. At the stop, she highlighted the Trump Administration’s continuedthreatto shut down the Department of Education and howpaused fundingearlier this summer left school districts scrambling.
The Senator then travelled to Grant County Regional Medical Center in Lancaster and St. Clare Health Mission in La Crosse to discuss how Republicans’ budget bill threatens to terminate health care for over 250,000 Wisconsinites and jeopardize rural hospitals’ ability to keep their doors open. Republicans’ legislation, which was signed into law on July 4th and supported by every Republican in the Wisconsin congressional delegation, is projected to cost Wisconsin’s rural hospitals$264.6 milliona year,threatening their abilityto remain open.
In addition to highlighting Medicaid cuts in Republicans’ budget bill, Senator Baldwin also hosted a roundtable in Kenosha to discuss how the legislation’s$186 billioncuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) will strip needed food assistance from Wisconsin families.
As Southeastern Wisconsin continues to recover from devastating flooding earlier this month, Senator Baldwin also visited Feeding America in Milwaukee to assist in packing food and water for Wisconsinites who have been impacted by extreme weather. She also joined officials from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) who were on the ground in Milwaukee on Friday to survey the damage. Senator Baldwinpenneda bipartisan letter to the Trump Administration on Thursday, calling on FEMA to approve Governor Tony Evers’requestfor a formal federal preliminary damage assessment and to provide immediate support for communities in Southeastern Wisconsin.
Senator Baldwin also stopped in Racine to meet with local businesses that are feeling the impacts of Donald Trump’s trade war, which has created months of chaos and uncertainty for Wisconsin farmers, manufacturers, and small businesses.
Next week, Senator Baldwin’s “Fighting for Wisconsin Families” tour wraps up with stops in Rock, Brown, and Marathon counties.
