Senator César J. Blanco Appointed to Powerful Senate Committees
for the 89th Texas Legislature
Austin, Texas – Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick today announced Senate committee
assignments for the 89th Texas Legislature, naming Senator César J. Blanco (SD29) to four
powerful committees: Business and Commerce, Health and Human Services, Natural Resources,
and Water, Agriculture, and Rural Affairs. Senator Blanco will also continue his critical work on
the Texas Sunset Commission, a role he was appointed to in 2024. These assignments position
Senator Blanco to elevate the voices and priorities of El Paso and West Texas in shaping Texas’
future.
Senator Blanco released the following statement:
“I’m deeply honored by these appointments by Lt. Governor Patrick. Membership on these
committees is a huge win for the working families and communities of El Paso and West Texas.
These committees are central to addressing our state’s most pressing challenges and kitchen-
table issues that families care about. I’m committed to delivering results that prioritize
opportunity, affordability, and economic security for hardworking families.
“As a member of the Senate Committee on Health and Human Services, I will continue to
champion efforts to expand access to affordable healthcare, tackle critical workforce shortages,
and improve mental and maternal healthcare. Families in West Texas deserve the peace of mind
that comes from knowing they can access quality care close to home, and I won’t stop fighting to
make that a reality.
“Our region is a powerhouse of renewable and traditional energy resources. On the Senate
Committee on Natural Resources, I’ll push for an ‘all of the above and all of the below’ energy
strategy that leverages West Texas’ wind, solar, geothermal, and oil and gas production. This
approach ensures we meet Texas’ growing energy needs while safeguarding our economic and
environmental future.
“Rural communities are critical to the success of our State, and the Senate Water, Agriculture,
and Rural Affairs Committee is where we tackle the issues that matter most to them—securing
water resources, expanding rural healthcare, delivering broadband access, and delivering food,
fiber, and fuel across Texas. When rural Texas thrives, Texas thrives.

“For the first time, I’ll serve on the Senate Committee on Business and Commerce which shapes
policies that impact the economic landscape of Texas, oversees legislation affecting businesses,
consumers, and our economic infrastructure. I’m eager to advance policies that support our
“mom and pop” small businesses, create good-paying jobs, improve cross-border trade, and build
the infrastructure that keeps Texas an economic powerhouse on the global stage.”
Senator Blanco’s focus on putting people over politics reflects his commitment to
real solutions and meaningful progress for El Paso and West Texas.
From the bustling small businesses in El Paso to the hardworking farmers, ranchers, and patch
workers across West Texas, Senator Blanco is fighting to ensure every Texan has a fair shot at
success. These committee assignments allow him to address the issues that matter most: creating
opportunity, building economic security, and keeping Texas a leader in innovation and
prosperity.
“Together, we can build a future where affordability, opportunity, and a commitment to our
communities define what it means to live in Texas,” Senator Blanco said. “Let’s get to work.”
