State Senator Molly Cook Receives Committee Assignments for the
89th Legislative Session
Austin, TX – Today, Senator Molly Cook (D-Houston) was appointed to serve on the Senate
Committee on Health and Human Services, the Senate Committee on Administration, and the
Senate Committee on Local Government for the 89th Legislative Session. A registered nurse and
community organizer, Senator Cook is ready to apply her frontline healthcare experience to work
for the people of Senate District 15 and all Texans. Senator Cook offered the following comment
on her appointment:
“Learning of my appointment today to the Senate Health and Human Services
Committee while treating patients during a shift at the emergency department was a
profound moment of responsibility.
“After years of caring for patients at the bedside and organizing toward solutions for
community health, I am honored to continue fighting for my neighbors—this time from
the other side of the table. My service to Senate District 15 is an extension of my
nursing practice, rooted in firsthand experience with the barriers Texans face to
living healthy lives and the challenges to seeking care in our healthcare system.
“I will use my seat on Health and Human Services to demonstrate nursing leadership,
listen closely to the people of Texas, and protect and expand access to life-saving care.
We must be laser-focused on preventing suffering before it starts. Through every
committee, I will prioritize every Texan's safety, opportunity, and resilience—standing
against powerful corporations and institutions that prioritize profits over public health.
Billionaires and special interest groups cannot take precedence over working families
and vulnerable Texans.
I am committed to leading with compassion, serving as a responsible steward of
taxpayer dollars, and pursuing effective governance that puts people first, protects our
