Fischer, Ricketts Applaud Grant Funding for Bellevue Public Schools

Funding secured through the Working Families Tax Cuts WASHINGTON – Today, U.S. Senators Deb Fischer (R-NE) and Pete Ricketts (R-NE) released the following joint statement on the U.S. Department of War Education Activity’s (DoWEA) announcement that Bellevue Public Schools will receive a $2.89 million grant from the Fiscal Year 2026 Military-Connected Schools Construction, Modernization, and Facilities Maintenance Grant Program: “This is wonderful news for Bellevue and a great way for the department to return federal investments to military communities. Offutt has brought thousands of families to the region, and this grant will improve the learning environment for their children and all the students in the school system. This is another win from the Working Families Tax Cuts, and we thank the department for selecting Bellevue this year.” This grant funding will support facility improvements benefiting military-connected students and families assigned to Offutt Air Force Base. Bellevue Public Schools will use the grant to execute coordinated infrastructure and facilities maintenance projects across 12 district school sites. The work will address critical requirements in life-safety systems, Americans with Disabilities Act accessibility, health-code compliance, and general facility repair. Background : The Military-Connected Schools Construction, Modernization, and Facilities Maintenance Program was funded in the Working Families Tax Cuts passed by Congress and signed by the president in 2025. Authorized under 10 U.S.C. § 2008, the program permits the Department of War to use funds to support the construction, renovation, repair, or expansion of school facilities serving federally connected students. To be eligible for funding, Local Education Agencies must receive U.S. Department of Education Impact Aid Basic Support Payments and demonstrate a military-connected student enrollment of 15 percent or greater at the targeted school facility.
