Congressman McCormick's Contributions To The Fiscal Year 2027 National Defense Authorization Act
June 10, 2026 Press Release WASHINGTON, D.C. – Congressman Rich McCormick participated in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) markup. After nearly 14 hours of debate and negotiation, McCormick and his colleagues in the House Armed Services Committee (HASC) reviewed nearly 1,000 amendments, and it passed out of committee by a vote of 42-12. H.R. 8800 will authorize $1.15 trillion for America's national defense. For nearly 65 consecutive years, the NDAA has been enacted into law and Congressman McCormick is hopeful that this year is no different. "The National Defense Authorization Act is always the seminal event of the year, and the most critical markup in which I participate. This legislation is an important step towards enacting the 'Peace Through Strength' doctrine. As a Marine and Navy veteran, I saw firsthand the importance of safety for our servicemembers, from where we get our medicine to how we maintain our combat aircraft. I was honored to work with Chairman Rogers on assuring that these goals and many others are met, and assuring that America stays the preeminent global power and that freedom can prosper worldwide", said Congressman McCormick. “I was proud to work with Congressman McCormick to incorporate his language to right-size TRICARE reimbursements without increasing costs for military retirees and survivors. His legislation will also allow us to leverage partnerships to improve our medical readiness. I appreciate his work to better steward taxpayer dollars and strengthen America’s national security. As a veteran, he is a strong advocate for Georgia’s servicemembers and military families and the men and women who power our defense industrial base. With his leadership, we’ll bolster American deterrence and restock the Arsenal of Freedom,” said Chairman Mike Rogers. Congressman McCormick secured the inclusion of amendments that directly benefit the state of Georgia and the 7th Congressional District. Report language and funding authorizations for military procurement of counter-drone systems, small turbine engines, and microelectronic power amplifiers all of which are manufactured in North Georgia. Oversight of the Air National Guard’s aerial firefighting program, which operates on C-130s made in Georgia. Requirements for the Marine Corps, Navy, Army, Air Force, and Space Force to develop strategies to improve their human performance programs, which will improve the health, wellbeing, and performance of servicemembers across Georgia military installations. New measures to safeguard against prescription drugs procured by the military from foreign adversary nations and support the procurement of American-made prescription drugs. The National Defense Authorization Act is legislation that Congress passes each year to change the policies and organization of United States defense agencies and guide how military funding may be spent. Though funding for the U.S. military must be approved through appropriation bills, Congress uses the NDAA to establish defense priorities, make organizational changes to military agencies, and guide the Department of Defense.
