Letlow Introduces Students Over Paperwork Act

June 10, 2026 Press Release Codifies Language in President Trump's Budget Proposal WASHINGTON, D.C. – With administrative burdens in education at historic highs, Congresswoman Julia Letlow is filing legislation to remove excess paperwork requirements on public school teachers. Letlow’s Students Over Paperwork Act would extend waivers to paperwork requirements in education required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. The bill would incentivize states to participate in a Paperwork Reduction Pilot for special education teachers, codifying waivers proposed in President Trump’s Fiscal Year 2027 budget request. “Teachers are called upon to educate students, manage behavior, and foster lifelong growth. Given these significant responsibilities, our teachers deserve relief from the paperwork burdens and bureaucracy that often inhibit classroom teaching,” said Congresswoman Julia Letlow. Under the legislation, paperwork waivers could not affect any civil rights, safety or educational requirements, and must preserve the fundamental rights of children with disabilities. This proposed language would enable the Department to extend the length of waivers for up to four years at a time, without a limit on the number of extensions. ### Issues : Education
