Pelosi Statement on Historic Election of More Than 100 Democratic Women to the House

November 4, 2026 Press Release San Francisco — Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi issued this statement on the election of more than 100 Democratic women to the House of Representatives: “Today, House Democrats made history on many fronts. One milestone fills me with particular joy and pride: the election of more than 100 Democratic women to the House of Representatives. “This victory reflects the extraordinary quality of our women candidates and a deliberate commitment to their success. Leader Hakeem Jeffries and DCCC Chair Suzan DelBene joined with the Democratic Women’s Caucus, Elect Democratic Women, our partners in Labor and women’s organizations to recruit, support and elect outstanding women. Together, they turned opportunity into victory. “Electing Democratic women has been my passion since I first came to Congress in 1987, when there were only twelve of us. We made a decision to make more room for women at the tables of power — and generations of candidates, organizers and supporters have carried that work forward. California has been especially generous, with our Ultimate Women’s Power lunches and events in the North and South helping women win across the country. “The impact of women in Congress is measured in the progress we have delivered: better healthcare, greater economic opportunity, stronger protections for our rights and a brighter future for our children. With more than 100 Democratic women bringing their experience, courage and determination to the House, even greater progress is within reach. “On a personal note, serving alongside women in positions of power has been one of the greatest honors of my public service — and one of its greatest joys. We have worked hard, won consequential fights and had a great deal of fun along the way. Above all, we have proved what is possible when women have the opportunity to lead. These extraordinary women will now write the next chapter. When women succeed, America succeeds!”
