Hinson Secures Investments for Iowa in FY27 Agriculture and Rural Development Funding Bill
Image June 5, 2026 Press Release Washington, D.C. — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson (IA-02) released the following statement following the House passage of the FY27 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies (Ag-FDA) Appropriations Bill. "This bipartisan bill will strengthen Iowa agriculture, support Iowa farmers, and protect our food supply. I fought for this legislation to include my provision to lower fertilizer costs, support efforts to combat animal diseases, advance agricultural research, and protect farmland from malign foreign influence. “I also secured funding for important projects in Iowa that will strengthen local fire, healthcare, and infrastructure services, improving the vitality in rural communities and ensuring rural Iowans have access to critical services. I’ll always fight to bring home as many targeted investments as possible to better our communities." — Congresswoman Ashley Hinson Rep. Hinson secured nearly $6.5 million in Community Project Funding requests in Iowa’s Second Congressional District, including: $1,198,937 for the Veterans Memorial Hospital MRI and Mobile Coach Replacement Project: This funding will replace the Allamakee County Veterans Memorial Hospital’s aging and obsolete MRI system, allowing earlier and more accurate diagnoses for local residents.(Allamakee County) $1,480,000 for the Blairstown Emergency Services Station: This funding will support the construction of a new fire and emergency services station, replacing the existing 100-year-old facility that cannot accommodate emergency services equipment. (Benton County) $750,000 for the Readlyn Emergency Services Building: This funding will support the construction of a new emergency services building, allowing faster response times for Readlyn’s fifty-five-mile service area. (Bremer County) $497,465 for the Buchanan County Medical Services Ambulance: This funding will allow Buchanan County to purchase a new ambulance. Currently, the county uses an out-of-state private ambulance service that has limited response capacity and long response times. (Buchanan County) $300,000 for the Butler Logistics Park Wastewater Treatment Expansion Project: This funding will support additional capacity for wastewater collection for the growing community near the Butler Logistics Park. (Butler County) $1,423,193 for the Luana Water Treatment Facility Improvement Project: This funding will help expand Luana’s wastewater treatment facility to comply with environmental standards and support future community growth. (Clayton County) $200,000 for the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department's Ambulance Purchase: This funding will facilitate the purchase of a new ambulance to assist the Wellsburg Volunteer Fire and Rescue Department's emergency services. The current ambulance is 30 years old and has reached the end of its service life. (Grundy County) $600,000 for the Ely 294 Fire Engine: This funding will facilitate the purchase of a new fire engine to assist the College Ely Putnam Fire Protection and Emergency Response Agency’s emergency services, which faces increased demand due to population growth and increased traffic on Interstate 380. (Linn County) Highlights of the bill: Includes Rep. Hinson’s language requiring USDA to assess factors driving high fertilizer costs, including industry concentration, and to assess the effectiveness of fertilizer price reporting measures. Supports USDA’s plant and animal disease mitigation efforts with a $1.16 billion investment in the Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service, protecting producers from threats like Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza. Provides robust support for agriculture research, including increased funding for the USDA Agricultural Research Service to keep American producers on the cutting edge of technology and production practices. Protects our national security by improving oversight of foreign purchases of agricultural land and increasing transparency into agriculture research funding involving foreign governments. Invests $50 million in Farm Service Agency technology modernization, including the One Farmer, One File Initiative, to improve program delivery for farmers.
