WATCH: Sen. Ossoff Secures Commitment from VA Secretary Collins to Work on Preventing Veteran Foreclosure May 6, 2026 Washington, D.C. — U.S. Senator Jon Ossoff secured a commitment from the VA Secretary to focus on preventing veteran foreclosure. Last week, during a U.S. Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Military Construction and Veterans Affairs hearing, Sen. Ossoff secured a commitment from Veterans Affairs (VA) Secretary Doug Collins to work with him and the Subcommittee to make sure foreclosure prevention and veteran homelessness prevention programs are strengthened. “Mr. Secretary, something I think you’re passionate about, obviously a key issue in Georgia and across the country as we build this Appropriations bill, will you just commit to working with me and the Subcommittee to make sure that we are strengthening the foreclosure prevention and veteran homelessness prevention programs that I know are important to you, important to the VA, important to the folks back at home?” Ranking Member Ossoff said. Sec. Collins gave his commitment, noting that the VA is “trying to find the right way to do that.” Last year, Sen. Ossoff was appointed to the U.S. Senate Appropriations Committee and named Ranking Member of the Subcommittee, making him the first U.S. Senator from Georgia to serve on the Senate Appropriations Committee in over 30 years. Sen. Ossoff continues working across the aisle to prevent veteran homelessness and support Georgia veterans. In March, Sen. Ossoff cosponsored the bipartisan Housing Unhoused Disabled Veterans Act (HUDVA) , first introduced by Sens. Alex Padilla (D-CA) and Dave McCormick (R-PA), to ensure that veterans can more fairly access affordable housing options. Also in 2025, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered $500,000 in Federal funding to assist homeless veterans in the Atlanta area. In 2024, Sens. Ossoff and Rev. Warnock delivered over $31 million in Federal funding through the VA Supportive Services for Veteran Families program to nonprofit organizations across the state that help veterans find housing and prevent homelessness.
