Castro Statement on Fifth Circuit Stripping Immigrants of Due Process Rights
October 23, 2026 Castro Statement on Fifth Circuit Stripping Immigrants of Due Process Rights SAN ANTONIO, TX – Today, Congressman Joaquin Castro (TX-20) released the following statement on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit’s ruling in Sosnava Rodriguez v. Ortega : “Today, the Fifth Circuit stripped immigrants facing detention in Texas, Louisiana, and Mississippi of their right to due process. People who have lived in our communities for years, even decades, can now be locked away with no chance to see a judge or ask for bond. It’s a radical departure from decades of legal precedent and violates the Fifth Amendment of the Constitution, which protects everyone. This ruling leaves tens of thousands of people imprisoned without the government ever having to say why. It is wrong, and we will keep fighting.” ### Print Email Tweet
