Rosen Votes Against Markwayne Mullin for Secretary of Homeland Security
WASHINGTON, DC– Today, U.S. Senator Jacky Rosen (D-NV) voted against a procedural step to confirm Senator Markwayne Mullin (R-OK) as the next Secretary of Homeland Security.
“After Kristi Noem’s disastrous time as Secretary of Homeland Security, we need a steady, level-headed leader who will focus on protecting our homeland while ensuring ICE officers follow the same standards as other law enforcement officials,”said Senator Rosen.“We cannot have a Homeland Security Secretary who will continue the cruel immigration enforcement practices that have gone after U.S. citizens and law-abiding immigrants. I voted against Markwayne Mullin for Secretary of Homeland Security because he has made clear his number one priority is pleasing Donald Trump, including by voting against paying TSA agents — who would be his staff if he’s confirmed — during this Republican shutdown.”
Senator Rosen has been outspoken in her opposition to Donald Trump’s mass deportation agenda, and support for reforms to rein in ICE. Earlier this year, shecalledfor guardrails to rein in ICE officers following the killings of two Americans in Minneapolis. During the Republican shutdown of the Department of Homeland Security, Senator Rosen tried topassher bill to pay TSA agents but Republicans blocked it.
