Senator Budd Releases Statement After Voting to Support Appropriations Package

Washington, D.C.
— U.S. Senator Ted Budd (R-N.C.) issued the following statement after casting his vote to pass the five-bill appropriations minibus and a two-week continuing resolution for the Department of Homeland Security(DHS).
“Yesterday, I opposed a procedural vote for the appropriations package over the inclusion of several troubling earmarks. Unfortunately, not enough Senators supported stripping them out.
“While my concerns about these earmarks remain, I agree with President Trump that Congress must avert a government shutdown, and I voted to advance this bipartisan package that will benefit North Carolina’s military families, infrastructure, and disaster recovery.
“Because our state is still recovering from Hurricane Helene and faces an onslaught of severe winter weather, I would have preferred the pre-negotiated full-year appropriations for DHS stay in this package. Still, advancing stopgap funding for DHS ensures that core agency components, including immigration enforcement agencies, FEMA, the Coast Guard, and the TSA, can continue their missions over the next two weeks,”
said Senator Budd.
