LADY LAKE, Fla.—Senator Ashley Moody today honored the service and sacrifice of approximately 100 Vietnam War veterans at a pinning ceremony at American Legion Post 347—the largest post in the world. At the ceremony, Senator Moody presented the veterans, and surviving spouses of deceased veterans, with lapel pins commemorating their service and sacrifice to the U.S.

Senator Ashley Moodysaid, “Florida is the proud home to more than 1.4 million veterans, each a living reminder of service, sacrifice, and strength. Today, I was privileged to commemorate approximately 100 Vietnam War-era veterans and surviving spouses in Central Florida. Many of these soldiers bravely fought in faraway jungles and unimaginable conditions, and it is important to me that the U.S. never forgets those who stood strong on behalf of this nation and freedom.”

The Vietnam War Commemoration, established by Congress in 2008, partners with community organizations and government offices to honor Vietnam War-era veterans with pin presentation ceremonies, like the one hosted by Senator Moody today.

Florida is home to more than1.4 millionveterans and their families, including more than423,000Vietnam-era veterans. Nearly9 millionAmericans served in the military during the Vietnam War-era, including more than2.7 millionsoldiers fighting in Vietnam. More than 300,000 were wounded. More than 58,000 soldiers who fought in the conflict died in service to the U.S.

When Senator Moody served as Florida’s Attorney General, she formed the Florida Military and Veterans Assistance Program to assist service members and their families who have been affected by scams. From 2019 and January 2025, when Senator Moody left the Attorney General’s office, MVAP recovered more than $3.7 million from over 2,300 complaints for affected military members and their families.
